From Dubai to Watford
International gigs have always been a key element of the Metropolis diary, with recent engagements as far a field as India and Dubai. We’ve just returned from our first overseas trip of 2012…. Where, I hear you ask? Egypt!BMI flight 445 left Heathrow Terminal One at 9am on Thursday morning (far too early really) destined for the wedding on Rana and Mohamid at the Four Seasons Hotel, the most exclusive in Cairo. With hundreds of UK weddings under our belt it could be said we know pretty much what to expect….But when you’re told the bride and groom aren’t arriving to 9.30pm it’s safe to assume this event is destined to be something a little different!
Stunning Events
The most beautiful ballroom was the home of simply one of the most stunning events I have ever seen in my career – and that’s a fair few. The night took off with 15 minutes of traditional Egyptian dancing and then the camera turned to us seamlessly for the first dance – and that’s meant literally. Playing in front of an enormous LED screen with a multitude of cameras; one even on a crane, the first dance was some more reminiscent of a TV show or pop concert!Steve Turner our esteemed pianist played the opening piano moment from the iconic 80s Survivor ballad ‘The Search Is Over’ and you could hear a pin drop when Nick Ingram displayed some masterful falsetto vocals. You may remember there’s a rather large drum fill, reminiscent of a Phil Collins special and you’ve guessed it… just at the crucial second the fireworks and pyrotechnics made a magical moment something else….Here’s a YouTube link to the ‘Search Is Over’Once you’ve checked out the Survivor song why not check out what would make a great international party band playlist or just drop us a line for a bespoke function band quote.More on this phenomenal night to come….
