Corporate Events to Jewish Weddings, Live Party Band Experiences

After well over 10 years in the corporate events and wedding band industry we really have seen it all! Having performed at literally thousands of events naturally we often get asked the same questions over and over. At Metropolis we have a vast cross section clients from events companies, who book entertainment on a daily basis - all the way through to private individuals who may only book a Jewish celebration once in their lives. For the latter booking live music is often a daunting task. There is so much choice out there, how do you start? This is the first of a series of impartial blog posts, which will hopefully start to answer these questions.  If you think of any more please do not hesitate to ask!

"How much should a London party band cost?"

This is question is not dissimilar to old saying 'how long is a piece of string'!  I'm sure  you may be sitting, pondering over quotes from a few hundred pounds, all the way up to many of thousands.  So, why the variation?

Musical Vocation

• Performing music is ultimately a wonderful vocation. This means you will get weekend warriors, semi professionals, students and full time musicians all performing on the function band circuit. Obviously what someone who plays in the pubs at the weekend needs to earn compared to that of a full time pro is radically different. Normally the skill level and quality goes absolutely hand in hand with this.• Why do some bands charge VAT? Ultimately nobody likes paying tax to state the obvious ,and it’s doubtful any musicians would choose to charge it given a choice. However once you turn over around £73,000 there’s no choice! That’s a serious amount of cash though, which is indicative a serious operation. Often this 20% will put people off, but in reality clients should use it to give confidence and reassurancthe act you’ve booked is established and a professional business.

Attention to Detail

• The old cliché ‘you get what you pay for’ could never be so true. To give an example: an amateur band could turn up with all the equipment in the back of a old car driven by the lead singer compared to the  top of the range act in a brand new van, with crew to rig.  Think of the how a large corporation such as Waitrose carries itself compared to your local corner shop – the same applies with the entertainment business.  All these things ultimately cost money but at the end of the day this attention to detail really does make a huge difference. There are many, many useful articles already in our blog – why not check out our guide to what makes an international function band gig a success?
